Hazel took to the task instantly and is very attentive to her young. Just the way a shepherd likes it. Both lambs are a bit smaller which is normal for a first time mom, both weighing in the 8# range.
The lambs are nursing and sleeping and doing all the attendant things lambs do. Eat, sleep, grow, eat, sleep, grow.

Both the little ones look like they are doing great! Do both the new ewes have Hazel's markings, or is too soon to tell?

ReplyDeleteActually one of the ewes does look like Hazel. The ewe and lamb each have tri-color to their faces. The other lamb has a whiter face. It's the coolest thing how each lamb is unique and yet falls within the breed's guidelines. Both of these lambs are CVMs as are their sire and dam. And yet two CVMs can breed and create, one, a CVM, two, a white Romeldale, or three, a natural colored Romeldale. Or a CVM can breed a white Romeldale and the same set of options can occur as it would if 2 white Romeldales were bred. So it's like a Christmas stocking come lambing season!
